Recently my boyfriend complained about me being obsessed by my phone. It’s natural in our times but I will admit I’m online 24/7. Literally I never leave my flat without my phone. I won’t even go for a jog without Spotify and how could I go through awkward silences without checking Instagram or Facebook? Seems crazy when I think about it, but that’s how each day looks like.
Going phoneless for a day brings up so many challenges. First of all, I rely on google maps for my daily travels, otherwise I would get totally lost in London. However, I find a day without a challenge a wasted day. I always like to push myself this extra mile and do things I believe are impossible. Just to prove to myself how much I am able to do, I decided to take up the Phoneless Friday challenge to Save the Children.
Rules are simple, you go phoneless for a day on October 7th and donate 5 pounds. Money will go towards saving children’s lives and giving them a healthy start in life. Invite all your friends to do it, let’s see who’s stronger. If you need to use your phone for social purposes, just donate 5 pounds more. It’s a good cause for the kids and at the same time you test yourself. It’s not as hard as it seems. If I can do it, you can do it.
Treat it as a fun challenge rather than something negative. It’s more fun when you do it as a team. There’s much more support and as a team you can come up with alternatives to all essential apps we use daily.
Personally the part I mostly enjoyed about this whole challenge was figuring out how I can substitute everything I use on my phone.
Already curious how I survived my phoneless Friday?
I documented everything with my instax (since I couldn’t take photos with my iPhone). I rarely take it out, so I decided this would be the special occasion.
We both are obsessed with taking photos, mostly of each other haha. Generally, we make it all about our Instagram feed, editing in VSCO and all that stuff. I took all of my cameras with me to Barcelona so we actually spent the whole morning taking photos in this balcony.
Also with online shopping being kind of impossible, I went on to explore local shops in the morning. No Google maps was an amazing expierience. I got quite lost in tiny streets, got chatted up by a couple of locals. Coming back was a bigger challenge but I made it.
Headphones out! Our beach was known for quite original parties. From spanish hits to classics from 2009 like Lady Gaga. Bars were overflowing with people so some even stumbled over us with their amazing dancing skills.
Towards the end of the day we had quite a laugh at our obsession with our phones and especially instagram. So here’s a photo of Kuba trying to pose like an „instagram girl”.
Without the phones we could go and explore a bit of the sea. We went for almost 2 hours on this amazingly cute pink boat with a slide. Childhood dreams basically.
